History

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Arts & Commerce College, accredited grade “B+” by NAAC, had been a part of a college of national repute, the Holkar College, Indore. Holkar College was established in the year 1891 and Science, Arts, Commerce & Law faculties were conducted in the same college. As the number of students increased every year a new building was planned. The foundation stone of this College was laid down by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, on 3 November 1958.

The new building was inaugurated by Dr. Saravapalli Radhakrishnan on 25 December 1960. Since then the college began its journey with faculties of Arts, Commerce & Law. Later on department of Law was given the status of a separate Law College in April 2003. Our College is affiliated to Devi Ahilya Viswavidyalaya, Indore.

It is situated prominently on main NH-3 (A.B. Road) and has a huge campus sprawling over an area of 52 Acres with constructed area of 10878 sq. mts. Indore has been, other than just being a business city an educational hub also. The College has been endeavoring to cater to the needs of higher/advanced academic knowledge in Arts, Commerce, Yoga, Journalism, Management, Computer etc in Indore region.

It was accredited by NAAC at “A” grade in the year 2014. The College has an impressive motto, ‘Na Gyanen Sadrusham Pavithram Iha Vidyate’ i.e. ‘nothing is more sacred than education (knowledge)’. The College upholds the motto in a graceful realization of translating its vision into a concrete reality, to facilitate meaningful education and aims at inspiring the youth for vital transformation.
